We are mostly users after all and we will believe everything the developers (do not) tell us. That might save some aggravation for those of us who did not write this (tlmgr) code and just naively attempt to use it thinking “it works". So, I am unsure whether I realy take up astrology to know when to update on what (using tlmgr) or whetherĪ clear advise be issued on tlmgr along the lines “folks, this (tlmgr) does not work on Big Sur before TL 2020” and, "do NOT let this software attempt to update your pre-2020 trees even if it offers to”. I transferred the updated 2019-tree (some 8GB!!) from the desktop (Mojave) which updated itĪnd I just verified the 2019-tree works on both short and very very long projects (like a 655 page book).
No, it is an old Mac (2018, laptop), so I am unsure why good old tlmgr ought to be confused. It looks like tlmgr can't find its binaries, and is confused about the platform it's on. > Ah, here we go: I may have missed this in your first log.
